The Child Education and Empowerment Project (CEEP) is a dedicated initiative aimed at enhancing access to education for marginalized children and the overall standard of the public education system in Nepal. Launched in 2020, CEEP is a collaborative effort between Unnati, Kathmandu, Nepal, and the Usthi Foundation, a Swiss non-profit organization. The project primarily focuses on supporting marginalized and underprivileged families by addressing three key areas: education, health, and livelihoods.

Each year, CEEP provides comprehensive educational support to children from marginalized communities such as Chepang, Dalit, and children of Daily Wage Workers. This support includes essential school materials such as notebooks, pens, pencils, uniforms, sweaters, shoes, socks, school bags, Woolen caps, sanitary kits, and other necessary stationery. As of now, the project is supporting 151 sponsored children from public schools and 22 blind and low-vision students, ensuring that these students have the tools they need to succeed academically.

Beyond educational aid, the project extends livelihood assistance to the families of these children. By combining access to quality education with economic activities of family members, Unnati empowers both children and their families with opportunities to overcome socio-economic status and build a more secure future.

As part of its broader framework, Unnati has implemented the Blind Hostel Support Program at Janajagriti Secondary School, one of the project’s partner schools. This program is designed to enhance the quality of life and educational access for blind children residing in the school’s hostel. Following a comprehensive needs assessment, the program has introduced various interventions, including monthly health check-ups, computer training, music and sports activities, life skills and daily life orientation, and other classes. Teachers and staff have also received orientation sessions to promote inclusive education, while infrastructure upgrades have been carried out to make school and hostel facilities more accessible and friendly for blind and low-vision students.

Another vital component of Unnati is the Parenting Education Program, which equips parents with knowledge and tools to support their children’s holistic development. Aligned with national government guidelines, this program has been implemented in several schools, communities, and includes activities such as group and individual counselling, health, psychosocial, and mental health awareness sessions, home visits, and collaborative meetings involving teachers, parents, and students. These efforts aim to strengthen the family and community support systems that are essential for children’s educational success.

Through these interconnected interventions, Unnati strives to create inclusive, supportive, and sustainable pathways for children and families in Nepal, ensuring that no child is left behind in their journey to a brighter future.
