Access to education is important for rural people in Nepal. Due to unavailability of schools in remote areas, many people are still deprived from facility of primary school. Therefore, UNNATI is helping children and local school to enhance their capacity and provide assistance. It has supported aScience lab room constructed in Janjagriti Secondary School, Mahadevbeshi, Dhading. Total of 1100 students are studying in this school from local communities.

UNNATI has also been working to extend basic health services for earthquake affected families in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Nuwakot.  The mobile health service centres are being conducted in the districts targatign to older people.

MAJOR ONGOING AND UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

RESPONSE AGAINST COVID-19
1.  Organize regular awareness raising against COVID-19, child health issues, nutrition, psychosocial issues, vaccination, personal health and hygiene, menstruation hygiene, sanitation, gender, child education and roles of parents in COVID-19 context.Preparing, collecting and dissemination of materials about COVID-19 and other relevant issues related to children. Disseminating materials to school to prevent against COVID-19 (such as Bucket, mug, hand washing soap/liquid, hand sanitizer, mask etc) to support alternative education activities as guideline provided by Ministry of Education/Government of Nepal.
EDUCATION SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN
2.Provide educational support to 150 children (at least 50% girls) mainly from poor, marginalized communities (providing education package such as uniform, bag, shoes, stationary etc.) to address the effects of COVID-19 and also support to continue their school education to minimize risks of school drop out. Recommendation will be collected from schools and local government.
SCHOOL SUPPORT FOR BETTER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN IN THE CONTEXT OF COVID-19
3.Support schools to improve their facilities such as library, sport materials, furniture, equipment for online/virtual classes or alternative classes as guideline provided by Ministry of Education/GoN based on their pressing needs to improve quality of education. Extra curricula activities materials such as chart paper, card board, drawing paper, drawing colors, pencil, eraser, sharpener, exercise book, marker, music speaker, self learning materials etc) for child friendly teaching activities and also for alternative classes.
4.Assist schools to develop and conduct extracurricular activities for children to provide better learning opportunity and socialization such as cultural programme, psychosocial orientation, health orientation, competition etc. Organize public health awareness, materials distribution for schools, teachers, students and parents against COVID-19.

CAPACITY BUILDING OF TEACHERS
6.Conduct teachers training for child friendly teaching method, online classes, technology base teaching and child issues and rights to build their capacity to deliver their classes smoothly to address the effects COVID-19.
INCOME GENERATION ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS
7.Identify potential interventions for income generation in local level and link or facilitate parents for possible alternatives and help them to integrate in local development process to minimize effects of COVID-19. Provide support for income generation activities (startup seed money, small technology, materials, seeds etc)
